Porvorim: In a major security exercise, police across North Goa district conducted extensive combing operations over three consecutive nights, verifying thousands of tenants and rounding up hundreds of suspected individuals.
The operations, held on the intervening nights of April 25–26, 26–27, and throughout April 27, 2025, were carried out in view of the prevailing security scenario, officials said.
Combing operations were organized at key locations including Kamrabhat (Miramar), Indiranagar (Chimbel), Merces, St. Cruz, Ekta Nagar and Khorlim (Mapusa), Arpora, Nagoa, Auchitwado (Colvale), Vatadev (Bicholim), Hatwada (Valpoi), Bambolim (near Aldeia de Goa), Arambol, Donwado (Salvador do Mundo), Baga, Sinquerim, and Malpem Railway Station, among others.
Police teams searched for hideouts of anti-social elements and simultaneously conducted verification drives of tenants, servants, and foreigners staying at hotels, guesthouses, and homestays. Filing of ‘C’ forms for foreign nationals was also part of the operation.
According to official figures, during the operation:
* 4,555 tenants were verified,
* 2,241 servants and house helps were checked,
* 198 stranger rolls were filled,
* 240 suspected persons were rounded up, and
* 50 persons were arrested under preventive measures.Additionally, 34 cases were booked against illegal hawkers.
Police stations at Panaji, Mapusa, Bicholim, Mopa, and surrounding areas reported significant action, with the highest number of verifications and preventive detentions recorded from Mapusa and Bicholim regions.
The operations were part of a special drive to strengthen safety and security across North Goa, police added.
