CANACONA: The Canacona Congress leaders said that the ongoing progress at Canacona’s Ravindra Bhavan is being closely monitored.
“As of now, several vital facilities for the artists remain incomplete, and there are reports that the Government is contemplating inaugurating the project worth over 65 crores for Canconcar’s in the next month,” said COngress leader Janardan Bhandari.
He expressed concerns about this, emphasizing that if the government proceeds with the inauguration while leaving some works unfinished, the Canacona community will strongly oppose it.
Bhandari revealed that the foundation stone was laid in 2013 with the goal of providing a platform for Canacona artists to showcase their talents. However, there has been a prolonged delay in the commencement and completion of the project, which was initially supposed to be finished within three years.
The contractor was entrusted with the 65 crore project in 2017, but the work has been ongoing for seven years now.
Regarding recent inspections by the GSIDC MD and Art & Culture Director, Bhandari questioned why it took so long for them to recognize the need to complete the project for the people. He cautioned against playing with the sentiments of the Canacona community and stressed that public funds should not be misused for personal agendas.
Bhandari also mentioned that he has called for an expert team from his party to assess the progress of the project, and he has been advised to wait until the works are completed.
He warned that if the Ravindra Bhavan is inaugurated with incomplete facilities, leading to any issues, there will be significant protests and demands for accountability from the responsible authorities.
