CANACONA: Despite the onset of chilly December evenings, Zilla Panchayat candidates in Canacona remain undeterred, intensifying their campaigns across the remote and forested villages of the taluka. With limited days left before the elections, candidates are braving cold nights to reach voters through door-to-door visits and corner meetings.
In Poinguinim, BJP candidate Ajay Lolienkar has been actively campaigning with the support of Minister and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, holding corner meetings and door-to-door visits in villages like Khotigao, Gaondongrim, and Poinguinim. The campaign is backed by local BJP leaders and panchayat representatives, with the exception of a few absent members from Gaondongrim.
Meanwhile, GFP-Congress alliance candidate Prashant Naik has intensified his outreach, joined by former minister Isidore Fernandes, councillor Shubham Komarpant, and other party leaders, engaging directly with farmers during paddy threshing in Gaondongrim. AAP candidate Rajesh Gaonkar, with his team, is also actively canvassing door-to-door in all four villages of Poinguinim constituency. Independent candidates, including Daya (Umesh) Gaonkar and Vipin Prabhugaonkar, remain engaged with door-to-door campaigns and social media outreach, while Shailesh Pagi and Diksha Pagi are focusing on understanding local voter concerns in key villages.
In Khola constituency, all three candidates are women from the OBC community, largely campaigning in their home village and surrounding wards. Congress candidate Sumitra Pagi, supported by Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa, is campaigning in Betul-Naqueri and Khola Panchayat areas, while BJP candidate Tejal Pagi is backed by former Dy. CM Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar and local party leaders. AAP’s Adv. Samiksha Pagi is actively engaging voters through door-to-door outreach.
Interestingly, while BJP candidates highlight the achievements of the ruling party, their rivals focus on what they allege as failures and ongoing grievances, promising solutions and urging voters to support them for meaningful change.
