PONDA: On Saturday, one innocent life was lost after falling into an open chamber on a roadside near Bethora, but there is not one, but at least five more open compartments are waiting for disaster.
The social worker Viraj Sapre was furious over the person’s death after falling into the PWD valve chamber. He also urged WRD Minister Subash Shirodkar to take strict action against concerned officials.
The chamber valve was inaugurated two days ago by WRD Minister Subash Shirodkar for supplying a new water pipeline at Bethora. However, the officials failed to cover the valve chamber, and several such open chambers are seen on Bethora road without proper barricading and have become death traps. Locals demand proper barricades to the chamber till PWD completes its work.
Meanwhile, the cross-drainage nullah retaining wall collapsed near the road leading to Dattagarh Junction and has become another death trap for commuters.
