BARDEZ: Goa Police have registered a case against a woman from Verla-Canca for allegedly abusing and assaulting an electricity department meter reader while he was on duty.
According to police, complainant Sai Naik (38), resident of Mayem, Bicholim, reported that on September 18, 2025, around 10 am, while he was discharging his duties at Lopes Wado, Verla-Canca, the accused Maria Rodrigues, resident of the same locality, allegedly confronted him over the non-issuance of an electricity bill on time.
Police said the accused allegedly abused the complainant in filthy language, slapped him and hit him with a helmet, causing injuries. She also allegedly issued death threats, thereby obstructing him from performing his lawful duty.
The case has been registered, and PSI Viraj Korgaonkar is investigating the matter.
