CURCHOREM: Curchorem Police have registered a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 after a woman allegedly pledged fake gold ornaments to obtain a high-value loan from a finance company.
The complaint, filed by Praveen Kudarihala, Area Head of M/s Manappuram Finance Ltd., Vasco, states that on 7 April 2025 at 2:51 pm, at the Manappuram Finance Ltd., Curchorem Branch, the accused Avani Shet Mayenkar, resident of Bandol, Kirlapal-Curchorem, pledged eight heavily gold-metal-coated bangles, presenting them as genuine gold.
Believing the items to be real, the branch sanctioned a gold loan of ₹9,05,000. It was later discovered that the ornaments were fake, resulting in a financial loss of ₹5,79,371 to the company.
Police stated that the accused had knowingly deceived the branch and dishonestly induced the company into disbursing the loan.
Based on the complaint, Curchorem Police registered FIR No. 79/2025 under Section 318(4) of the BNS Act, 2023.
The investigation is being carried out by PSI Bharat Kharat of Curchorem Police Station.Further inquiries are in progress.
