SHIRVOI: A 21-year-old woman from the Borim-Shiroda area was critically injured after allegedly being stabbed by her male acquaintance near Shirvoi on Monday afternoon.
The victim, identified as Sakshi Naik, was travelling on her scooter towards Zambaulim when she was reportedly confronted by the accused, Ajay Kadam, a resident of Margao. Police sources said Kadam intercepted her in his car and after a heated argument, allegedly attacked her with a knife, inflicting serious injuries.
Following the assault, the accused reportedly transported Naik to the South Goa District Hospital in Margao but fled the hospital shortly thereafter. As her condition worsened, she was referred to Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim for advanced medical care.
Upon receiving information, Lady PSI Rifa Barretto and her team from Quepem Police rushed to the scene and carried out preliminary investigations. Despite a thorough search of the area, the weapon used in the attack has yet to be recovered.
Police have registered an offence and intensified efforts to trace the absconding suspect. A dog squad and forensic experts have been pressed into service to aid the investigation. Authorities confirmed that the victim and accused were known to each other, though the motive behind the incident remains unclear.
