CHICALIM: A late-night hit-and-run near Chicalim junction left 35-year-old Rani Bind seriously injured and her pet dog dead.
Rani was standing near the road divider after walking her dog when a speeding vehicle, allegedly driven by Ullas Naik, struck her.
The impact instantly killed the dog and caused severe injuries to Rani.
The driver did not stop and proceeded to crash into two more vehicles before jumping the divider and ending up on the opposite side of the road.
Rani was immediately taken to Goa Medical College Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Her family, including brother-in-law Jatin Amonkar, has demanded strict action against the driver and opposed any leniency in bail.
Vasco police have registered a case and are conducting an active investigation.
The incident has reignited public concerns over pedestrian safety and the pressing need to clamp down on reckless driving.
