BICHOLIM: A 49-year-old woman from Karapur, Khotiwada, died after suffering a massive electric shock at her residence on December 2.
Police said PSI Krishna Gawas and his team rushed to House No. 202, Kalasokatar, Karapur after receiving information around 12:58 pm that a woman had collapsed. Upon arrival, officers found Vasanti Salelkar, daughter of Ramu Salelkar, lying near the back door of the house.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that an insulated electrical wire, originally connected in one room, had been extended through a metal door to power a bulb in the kitchen shed. The door had limited clearance, causing repeated friction on the wire over time. This resulted in damage to the insulation and exposed wiring that came into contact with the metal door.
When Vasanti attempted to open the door, she reportedly received a severe electric shock and collapsed.
A Junior Engineer from the Sanquelim Electricity Department inspected the spot and confirmed the damaged wiring and live current exposure. Vasanti was declared brought dead at CHC Bicholim.
Further investigation is underway under PSI Krishna Gawas of Bicholim Police Station.
