PANAJI: Panaji Police have registered an offence against a woman who allegedly cheated a Vasco resident of ₹1.33 crore under the guise of investment in agricultural and hotel projects.
According to the complaint filed by Amrit Govind Sakhalkar, resident of New Vaddem, Vasco, the accused, identified as Bhushra Khanam Zara Khanam, allegedly induced him between March 2025 and October 2025 to invest in purported high-return ventures. The complainant subsequently transferred a total of ₹1,33,58,000 through cheques and bank transactions.
However, the accused allegedly failed to provide any documentation or details of the investment and did not return the money. When confronted, she reportedly threatened the complainant with false rape allegations.
Police have registered the case under Sections 318(4) and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for cheating and criminal intimidation. The investigation is being conducted by PSI Saheen Shetye of Panaji Police Station.
