VASCO: A 38-year-old woman, Poonam Bhandari, was found dead at her residence in Merces, Vaddem, Vasco. The incident came to light on Tuesday when her family members discovered her unresponsive in the bedroom.
According to police sources, Poonam’s husband, Shivraj Bhandari, had left for the gym early in the morning, while their two children were at school, and his parents had gone to MPT Hospital, Sada, for routine blood tests. Upon their return, the parents found the house locked from the inside. Repeated calls to Poonam went unanswered. They informed Shivraj, who returned with a spare key and unlocked the door.
Upon entering the bedroom, Shivraj found his wife hanging from the ceiling fan. He immediately cut the scarf used in the act and brought her body down in an attempt to save her.
Police were alerted, and a team from Vasco Police Station conducted a scene inspection and inquest panchnama.
The body was sent for a post-mortem examination at SGDH, Margao. The autopsy report confirmed the cause of death as “asphyxia due to constriction of the neck,”.
The body has been handed over to the family for last rites following the completion of the post-mortem. Vasco Police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the BNS, and further investigation is being conducted by PSI Carey Fernandes of Vasco police station under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
