BANASTARIM: A 32-year-old woman was found dead in her rented accommodation at Kharyabhat, Banastarim, in Ponda on Tuesday evening, sending shockwaves through the local community. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to police sources, information was received from PCR Margao at around 7:33 pm on February 17, 2026, reporting that a woman had been found dead inside her rented premises. Acting swiftly, police personnel rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
The deceased has been identified as Soni Singh Sandal (32), a native of Uttar Pradesh, who was presently residing at Kharyabhat, Banastarim. Upon arrival, police found her lying on the kitchen floor of the rented house.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that she was alone at home during the evening hours. The incident reportedly came to light when her children returned from tuition classes and noticed that the door was slightly latched from inside. After pushing the door open, they found her unresponsive and immediately alerted others.
Police conducted a scene of Unnatural Death (U.D.) panchanama and an inquest panchanama as part of standard legal procedure. The body has been preserved at the South Goa District Hospital for post-mortem examination and other medico-legal formalities.
Officials stated that further inquiry is being carried out to ascertain the exact sequence of events and any possible factors leading to the incident. PSI Madhav Gaude of Mardol Police Station is investigating the case.
Authorities have urged the public not to speculate and assured that all angles will be thoroughly examined as part of the ongoing probe.
