Mapusa: In a shocking hit-and-run incident, a 55-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after being knocked down by a speeding car near the T-junction close to the State Bank of India’s Agricultural Branch in Mapusa.
According to the complaint filed by the victim, Mrs. Aparna Ramesh Tarkar—resident of Shetyewado, Dhuler, Mapusa, and also of Sahakar Nagar, Naigaon, Mumbai—the incident occurred on July 16, 2024, at around 12:45 PM. While she was walking along the roadside near the T-junction, the car bearing registration number MH 46 CB 7000, driven allegedly by Prabhakar Pradeep Narvekar of Guirim, Bardez, Goa, approached from the direction of Court Junction toward the KTC Bus Stand.
The vehicle, reportedly driven in a rash and negligent manner, struck the pedestrian, causing severe injuries to her left leg and other parts of her body. Shockingly, the accused driver fled the scene immediately without stopping to offer any assistance or informing the authorities.
The complaint was officially lodged by the victim at 7:46 PM on July 23, 2025. Police have registered the case and launched an investigation into the matter. Authorities are now tracing the accused and examining CCTV footage from the area to piece together the sequence of events.
The incident has once again raised concerns about pedestrian safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws in the busy Mapusa area.
