CANSAULIM: A woman lost her life and two of her family members were injured after a scooter, allegedly ridden under the influence of alcohol, rammed into them near Three Kings Hall, Cansaulim on Sunday evening.
According to a complaint filed by Head Constable Shiva Naik of Verna Police Station, the incident occurred around 7:45 pm on May 18 when the accused rider, Aryan Gaude, a resident of Shiroda, Ponda, was riding his Honda Activa scooter in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding from Cansaulim Market towards Verna. Near Three Kings Hall, the scooter allegedly struck three pedestrians walking along the roadside.
The deceased has been identified as Sangeeta Bind, a resident of Verna and a native of Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. Her husband, Serai Bind, and their 13-year-old daughter sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao. The rider, Aryan Gaude, and his pillion rider also sustained injuries. Gaude is currently admitted at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim.
Verna police conducted an inquest panchanama at SGDH and sent the body for a post-mortem. The police surgeon certified the cause of death as “damage to chest, abdomen and spine consequent to blunt force impact.” The body was later handed over to the family for final rites.
Police have registered a case under Sections 281, 125(a), 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Mahesh Bhomkar under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
