Ponda: A woman was killed and her minor son injured in a road accident involving a TATA tipper truck at Warkhandem Junction, Ponda, on December 28, 2025.
According to a complaint lodged by PSI Sushanat Gaonkar, the incident occurred prior to 4.30 pm near Shantai Niwas, when the accused truck driver, Prasad Patil, a resident of Pale, Bicholim, allegedly drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, endangering human life.
Police said the tipper truck was proceeding from Farmagudi towards a construction site near Savoikar Hospital at Warkhandem when it dashed into a TVS Jupiter scooter coming from near Hanuman Temple towards Naga Masjid via Warkhandem, Ponda. As a result of the collision, the scooter rider Swati Rathod and her son Ayush Rathod, both residents of Curti, Ponda, originally from Maharashtra, were thrown onto the road.
Swati Rathod succumbed to her injuries, while the pillion rider Ayush Rathod sustained injuries and is currently undergoing medical treatment at GMC, Bambolim.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out by PSI Chetan Naik of Ponda Police Station.
