New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday assured that the government will not abandon Indians living or working in Gulf countries as tensions escalate in West Asia. Addressing a public gathering in Kerala, he said authorities are making every possible effort to assist citizens affected by the ongoing crisis.
Referring to the conflict involving Iran, the Israel and the United States, the Prime Minister noted that a significant number of Indians, including many from Kerala, are employed across Gulf nations. He assured that the government remains committed to ensuring their safety and welfare.
Modi said Indian embassies and diplomatic missions in the region are working continuously to provide assistance and respond to any emergencies. He also expressed appreciation for Gulf countries that are supporting Indian nationals during the tense situation.
The Prime Minister added that India has a strong track record of protecting its citizens abroad during conflicts and emergencies. He recalled earlier rescue missions carried out during crisis situations, including the evacuation of Indian nurses from Iraq, which demonstrated the government’s commitment to safeguarding Indians overseas.
During his address, Modi also criticised opposition parties, accusing the Indian National Congress and Left groups of spreading fear at a time when the country should remain united. He urged citizens to remain cautious of misinformation and avoid panic during the ongoing international tensions.
The Prime Minister further highlighted the importance of strengthening India’s self reliance, particularly in areas such as energy security. He said the government is working to ensure stability and resilience even as global geopolitical developments continue to affect energy markets and international trade.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Modi said every possible step is being taken to support Indians in the Gulf region and ensure that no citizen is left stranded during the crisis.
