New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a virtual meeting with Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors of states and union territories to review India’s preparedness in light of the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and their potential impact on the country.
The meeting focused on assessing possible disruptions to supply chains, energy availability and essential commodities as the conflict in the region continues to evolve. The Prime Minister stressed the need for coordinated efforts between the Centre and the states to effectively manage any emerging challenges.
Highlighting the importance of collective action, Modi urged states to function as “Team India” and expressed confidence that the country could successfully navigate the situation through cooperation and preparedness. He recalled how the Centre and state governments had worked closely during the COVID-19 crisis to manage supply chains and maintain essential services.
The Prime Minister noted that the situation in the Middle East remains dynamic and requires constant monitoring. He said an inter ministerial group has been reviewing developments daily and taking timely decisions to address any concerns.
According to the Prime Minister, the government’s priorities include maintaining economic and trade stability, ensuring energy security, protecting the interests of citizens and strengthening supply chains across sectors.
Modi asked state governments to ensure the smooth functioning of supply networks and to take strict action against hoarding and profiteering. He directed states to activate control rooms at both state and district levels and maintain administrative alertness to prevent disruptions.
Special emphasis was placed on advance planning in agriculture, particularly monitoring fertiliser stocks and distribution to avoid difficulties for farmers ahead of the upcoming Kharif season.
The Prime Minister also warned against misinformation and rumours, stressing the importance of timely and credible communication to prevent panic among the public. States were advised to remain vigilant against online fraud and fake agents.
Border and coastal states were asked to remain especially alert regarding shipping, maritime operations and essential supplies. States with large numbers of citizens in the Middle East were also advised to activate helplines and support systems to assist affected families.
