MORJIM: Digital nomads can now enjoy working with the backdrop of endless sea views, as the Goa government plans to introduce coworking spaces at Morjim and Ashwem Beaches.
This strategic move aims to provide ‘work from the beach’ opportunities to travellers seeking a blend of leisure and work, with plans to offer digital nomad visas to interested individuals.
Speaking at the renowned travel trade show, ITB Berlin, State Tourism Secretary Sanjeev Ahuja mentioned the government’s plan to promote Goa not only for its beaches but also for diverse experiences, aiming to attract more tourists, particularly from Europe and other high-spending destinations.
The department led by Minister Rohan Khaunte has introduced the concept of coworking spaces at the beaches, with plans to offer nomad visas to travellers seeking a blend of work and pleasure.
According to reports, the state has already approached the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the External Affairs Ministry regarding this initiative. Work is underway to set up the required facilities at Morjim and Ashwem beaches, with completion expected soon.
Ahuja highlighted the concept of regenerative tourism, emphasising the inclusion of culture, cuisine, traditions, and festivals to benefit local communities and farmers.
Goa boasts numerous temples and churches, vital for spiritual tourism, with an agreement already signed with Temple Connect, an organisation focused on temple ecosystem revival and development.
In addition to beach and spiritual tourism, visitors will also have the opportunity to experience farm life through spice and cashew plantation tours, showcasing Goa’s fresh produce.
The tourism department aims to incorporate hiking-related activities and promote festivals like Chikhal Kalo, featuring mud-based activities similar to the Tomatina festival of Spain.
