VASCO: Construction has officially begun on the crash barrier along the Dabolim airport shortcut road, connecting Vales Junction to St. Jacinto Island. The project was launched by Dabolim MLA and Minister Mauvin Godinho, marking a significant step towards enhancing road safety in the area.
During the launch, Minister Godinho emphasized the importance of the project, stating, “The installation of the crash barrier is a crucial step towards ensuring the safety of all road users. This shortcut road has been a significant route for many, and enhancing its safety measures is of utmost priority.”
The Public Works Department (PWD) officials outlined the technical aspects of the project, highlighting the benefits it would bring. “This crash barrier will significantly reduce the risk of accidents, especially along the more dangerous bends of the road,” said a senior PWD engineer. “We aim to complete the project efficiently and with minimal disruption to traffic.”
Local residents and frequent road users also expressed their relief and appreciation for the initiative. Maria D’Souza, a resident of Chicalim, commented, “This initiative has been long overdue. Many accidents have occurred here, and this barrier will undoubtedly make a difference.”
The project is set to progress in phases, with completion expected within the next few months. Temporary traffic arrangements will be in place as work begins to ensure a smooth flow of vehicles.
Minister Godinho concluded the launch with a message of reassurance: “We are committed to the development and safety of our region. This crash barrier is just one of many projects aimed at enhancing our infrastructure. We thank the community for their patience and cooperation as we work towards a safer Dabolim.”
