Canacona: The Public Works Department has issued a work order for the design and construction of a 5 MLD Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at Gaunem, Gaondongrim, in Canacona taluka.
The contract, awarded to Bagkiya Construction Pvt. Ltd., is valued at ₹27.58 crore, about 3% below the estimated cost of ₹28.43 crore (excluding GST). The project also includes operation and maintenance of the plant for five years.
According to the order signed by the Executive Engineer on behalf of the Governor of Goa, work is to commence on September 5, 2025 and must be completed within 540 days, including monsoon periods. The completion deadline has been set for February 26, 2027.
Highlighting the importance of the project, Canacona MLA and newly inducted Cabinet Minister Ramesh Tawadkar said, “This project will ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply system for the people of Canacona, enhancing quality of life and meeting future needs.”
The Gaunem Dam will serve as the source for the upcoming water treatment facility.
