Consua: A 22-year-old worker died after a coconut tree reportedly uprooted while he was plucking coconuts at Consua.
According to Goa Police, a wireless message was received from Goa Medical College and Hospital on March 15 stating that Nawin Soreng (22), a resident of Benaulim and a native of Jharkhand, had died while undergoing treatment.
Enquiries revealed that Soreng had been hired to pluck coconuts in a property at Consua. While he had climbed the coconut tree to pluck coconuts, the tree suddenly bent and uprooted from the ground, causing him to fall and sustain serious injuries.
He was initially shifted to South Goa District Hospital for treatment and later referred to GMC Bambolim, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in the casualty ward.
The body has been preserved at GMC Bambolim for medico-legal formalities. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Carey Fernandes of Verna Police Station.
