SANKHALI: The Department of Mathematics by the Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Sankhali, in collaboration with the Directorate of Higher Education has organized a two-day Workshop “Linear Algebra and Optimization using SageMath” recently.
The workshop commenced with an inaugural session, during which Prof. Namdev Gawas, the Principal of the College, warmly welcomed the gathering.
In his address, he highlighted the significance of incorporating modern computational tools, such as SageMath, into teaching and research.
The Director of Higher Education, Bhushan Savaikar, underscored the importance of students gaining a practical understanding of mathematics and its real-world applications.
A total of 33 students and educators attended the workshop, creating a collaborative and engaging learning environment.
The sessions provided a comprehensive overview of the application of SageMath in solving key mathematical problems. Topics covered included vector spaces, linear transformations, optimization techniques and linear programming.
The resource person demonstrated how SageMath can simplify complex mathematical operations, visualize results and provide insights into mathematical theories and applications.
Dr. Jervin Zen Lobo, Assistant Professor of Mathematics from St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, focused on the use of SageMath, a powerful open-source computational tool for mathematics.
The workshop concluded with a feedback session, where participants expressed their appreciation for the depth of content, the clarity of the resource person’s explanations and the value of learning a modern computational tool like SageMath. The workshop was Coordinated by Mr. Aaron Alphonso and Mr. Vishal Gawas.
