Valpoi: A workshop on “Waste Management” was recently organised in Keri through a joint initiative of the Biodiversity Board Keri and Gram Panchayat Keri. The event saw the participation of around 80 women from the village.
The chief guest, journalist Ganesh Shetkar, highlighted the growing challenges of waste disposal and stressed the importance of proper waste management to prevent diseases. He also urged the community to adopt sustainable practices.
The programme was attended by Sarpanch Supriya Gavas, Deputy Sarpanch Usman Sayyad, Biodiversity Board President Nanda Majik, guide Shraddha Rangnekar, and Management Committee members Diksha Gavas and Dnyaneshwari Shetkar.
The workshop began with the symbolic watering of a Tulsi plant. In her welcome address, Nanda Majik explained the objective of the programme and encouraged villagers, especially women, to use eco-friendly alternatives like cloth bags. All participants were presented with cloth bags as part of the initiative.
Shraddha Rangnekar guided the women on practical ways to segregate and manage household waste effectively. The event was coordinated by Sarita Nanda Majik, while the vote of thanks was delivered by panch member Diksha Gavas.
