NEW DELHI: India secured two medals at the ongoing World Boxing Cup as Minakshi (48kg) and Pooja Rani (80kg) booked their spots in the semifinals with impressive performances on Day 3 of the tournament.
Minakshi delivered a commanding 5:0 victory over Chinese Taipei’s Guo Yi-Xuan in her quarterfinal bout. Her sharp footwork, calculated aggression, and clean punches ensured a unanimous decision in her favour and confirmed India’s first medal of the day.
Following her, Pooja Rani displayed resilience and tactical maturity in a hard-fought match against Kazakhstan’s Gulsaya Yerzhan. The bout ended in a 4:1 split decision, with Pooja’s efforts earning her a well-deserved place in the last four and a guaranteed podium finish for India in the 80kg category.
Adding to India’s strong showing, Anamika (51kg) also advanced to the quarterfinals earlier in the day. She impressed with a composed and strategic win over Turkey’s Aysen Taskin, keeping India’s hopes alive for more medals in the women’s draw.
In the men’s competition, however, Jadumani Singh’s campaign came to an end after a close bout against Jay Bryan Baricuatro of the Philippines. Despite putting up a spirited fight, Singh fell short by a narrow margin.
As the tournament progresses, India remains in strong contention with more boxers lined up for their bouts. The successful showing in Astana has built momentum for the Indian contingent, with eyes now set on the finals scheduled to take place in New Delhi later this year.
