MORMUGAO: Mormugao Zonal Base of FSI organized an “Open House and Marine Fishery Exhibition” as part of the World Fisheries Day 2024 celebration on November 21.
Students and teachers from Govt. Murgaon High School, Headland Sada, Vasco and Kendriya Vidyalaya No.2, Vasco participated in the programme.
Later the students along with teachers visited the departmental vessels MFV Sagarika and MFV Yellow Fin berthed at Mormugao Port Authority, Goa where they were explained about various navigational and sea safety appliances, marine engines, fishing gears etc. used onboard the vessels.
Around 100 students and 04 teachers participated in the Programme.
A ‘Fisher Meet’ was held as part of the World Fisheries Day 2024 celebration on 21.11.2024 for the benefit of the local fishermen of Goa. Dr. S. Ramachandran Zonal Director, FSI Mormugao Base presided over the program.
Scientists of FSI, Mormugao Base (Dr. Pradeep H.D., Fisheries Scientist and Dr. Nashad M, Sr.SA ) explained the participants about the marine fishery resources of Goa, Marine litter and advantages of Artificial Reefs.
Uday Kumar Gaonkar, Fisheries Officer along with staff from Dept. of Fisheries, Govt. of Goa, also attended the programme. Mr. Jerry Fernandes, Chairman, Zuari Fishermen Marketing Co-operative Society Ltd, Vasco, Fishing Jetty, Vasco and Mr. Custodio De Souza, President, Old Cross Fishing Canoe Owners Co-operative Society Ltd, Mormugao, Goa along with local fishermen actively participated in the fishermen meet.
