PANAJI: As tensions over the Mhadei river diversion continue to rise, Goa’s Water Resources Development (WRD) Minister Subhash Shirodkar has welcomed the recent protests held in Belagavi, Karnataka, calling them a reflection of increasing awareness on both sides of the border.
“It’s a good thing that the people of Belagavi are protesting. Awareness from both Goa and Karnataka is beneficial. It helps bring the issue into sharper focus,” Shirodkar said while addressing the media.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the minister assured that the Mhadei issue is being taken very seriously and that all necessary steps will be taken to protect Goa’s interests.
The Mhadei river water dispute, which has long been a point of contention between Goa and Karnataka, has seen renewed activity in recent months, with both public demonstrations and political pressure building across state lines.
