VALPOI: With social media influencers, tourists and youngsters increasingly putting themselves in danger for photos and videos, the Water Resources Department (WRD) has asked Valpoi Police to tighten security around the Anjunem Dam in Sattari.
Officials say the monsoon season has seen a surge in visitors to the dam’s catchment area, particularly from commuters on the Keri–Chorla highway and tourists from Goa and neighbouring states. Despite bans on entry to waterfalls and water bodies during the rains, many continue to ignore warnings to make reels or take photos at hazardous spots.
In a letter to Valpoi Police Inspector, WRD Executive Engineer Shailesh Pokle highlighted the problem of reckless visitors turning into a public nuisance and risking their lives. The WRD requested increased surveillance and police patrolling to prevent accidents in the dam catchment area, especially along the Keri–Chorla stretch.
Meanwhile, the department also cautioned visitors at the Selaulim reservoir, which began overflowing on Wednesday evening, advising them to maintain distance from the spillway structure due to slippery conditions during heavy rains.
