PONDA: Following uproar by locals of Kavlem and Daag Ponda locals, the WRD team led by executive engineer Shailesh Naik and team of officials from other department today inspected encroachment in Daag Ponda nullah.
Naik said the WRD team would verify the exact width of the nullah and try to matcj it with land survey plan.
“Thereafter, whatever encroachments are found in nullah would be cleared,” he said.
The locals in Kavlem, Daag Ponda and Bandora fear that if constructions start coming up in catchment area at downstream of Ponda Main nullah it would cause major flooding in area and there fore the WRD, PMC and Kavlem Panchayat should take action.
Meanwhile, in reply to show cause notice of WRD the parties accused of encroachment Encroachment in Daag Ponda Nullah rejected WRD claims of encroachment in Nullah.
The locals demanded that WRD should take action without succumbing to political pressure to save village from flooding.
Last week the locals had alleged the original nullah width was 6.5 meter and it is clearly visible that retaining wall and pillar of shed had been encroached in nullah reducing size to 4 meter.
The locals demand was WRD inspect nullah and take action against guilty. If no action comes than in future it would cause flooding, they said.
