New Delhi:
In the aftermath of India’s 1-3 series loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal reflected on the team’s performance and expressed his determination for a stronger comeback. The series, which concluded on Sunday in Sydney, marked Australia’s first Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory in a decade, with their last win dating back to the 2014-15 season.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made his maiden tour of Australia, emerged as India’s top run-scorer with 391 runs across the five matches, including a century and two half-centuries, at an impressive average of 43.44. Despite his standout performance, Jaiswal acknowledged the team’s disappointment over the series outcome. On Instagram, he wrote, “Learnt a lot in Australia… Unfortunately, the result wasn’t what we had hoped for, but we’ll be back stronger. Your support means everything.”
The series saw India start strong with a win in Perth but fail to maintain the momentum. Key players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had a below-par performance, with Kohli managing only 190 runs at an average of 23.75 and Sharma scoring just 31 runs in three matches. Jasprit Bumrah, however, was a bright spot for India, taking 32 wickets and earning the Player of the Series award, though his injury in the final Test hindered India’s chances.
Australia’s victory not only secured them the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but also ensured their spot in the World Test Championship final against South Africa in June. India’s loss in the fifth Test by six wickets at Sydney sealed their fate, preventing them from qualifying for the WTC final for the third consecutive time.
