CANACONA: In a move aimed at improving last-mile connectivity for rail passengers, the District Collector (South) has officially notified a dedicated Yellow & Black Motorcycle Taxi and Auto Rickshaw Stand at the Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC) Station at Nagarcem–Canacona.
As per the notification issued in public interest, a 200 sq. m. area (10m x 10m) has been designated as a public service vehicle stand. The space will accommodate three Yellow & Black motorcycle taxis and 17 Yellow & Black auto rickshaws, ensuring an organised system for passenger services at the KRCL Station.
The Collector has also instructed the Executive Engineer, W.D. XXV (Roads), PWD Fatorda–Margao to install signboards, road markings, and other required infrastructure at the site.
Despite nearly 14 trains halting at Canacona (NCO) Station—many at odd hours—there was no earmarked stand for public transport vehicles until now. Passengers arriving at late hours often struggled to find onward travel options, while during the day, rickshaws and motorcycle taxis would visit the station only temporarily during train arrivals in the hope of being hired.
The newly established stand is expected to streamline transport availability and provide significant relief to passengers, including those travelling on regular services such as the Madgaon–Mangaluru MEMU Express.
