Panaji: YMCA Knights were crowned champions of the Veterans All Goa Basketball Tournament after defeating Siolim Basketeers by 44 to 25 in an entertaining final that highlighted skill, experience and teamwork. The contest began on an even note, with both sides matching each other in pace and intent. Siolim Basketeers held a narrow 20 to 19 lead at the interval, showing sharp movement and accurate shooting in the opening stages.
The match changed completely after the break as the Knights raised the intensity of their game. Their defence became tighter and more organised, forcing errors from the opposition and creating fast scoring opportunities. The veterans from YMCA used their years of experience to control the tempo, patiently building attacks and dominating the boards. What had looked like an evenly balanced contest in the first period gradually turned into a one sided affair.
Bosco Furtado emerged as the hero for the winners with a brilliant 25 point performance. The seasoned player, well known in Goa basketball for his earlier exploits with leading clubs, showed that age had not dimmed his class. His confident ball control, accurate shooting and smart positioning kept the Basketeers under constant pressure. He received strong support from Ehrlick De Ataide, who contributed seven crucial points at important moments of the game.
Captain Roy Gaspar played a key role in guiding the team, organising the defence and encouraging his teammates during difficult phases. His calm leadership ensured that the Knights never lost focus even when Siolim attempted a brief comeback. For the Basketeers, Ravi Rajan fought hard and finished as the top scorer for his side with 13 points, while Vijay Rajan added five points, but their efforts were not enough against a determined opponent.
The final attracted a lively crowd, with supporters appreciating the competitive spirit displayed by both veteran teams. The tournament once again proved that passion for basketball remains strong among senior players in Goa. With this impressive victory, YMCA Knights added another proud chapter to their long association with the sport and lifted the trophy in confident style.
