New Delhi:The recent protests against the Waqf Amendment Act have ignited severe tensions across India, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath criticizing the Mamata Banerjee government’s handling of violence in Murshidabad. Adityanath emphasized that “danda,” or the use of force, is the only effective way to manage rioters, accusing Banerjee of being silent as Bengal burns. This stance comes amid growing political polarization over the Waqf legislation, which some view as a catalyst for communal unrest.
Yogi Adityanath’s remarks targeted the Bengal government over its response to the violence in Murshidabad. He stated that before 2017, Uttar Pradesh experienced frequent riots but effectively controlled them with a firm hand. In Hardoi, Adityanath highlighted this contrast, suggesting that Bengal’s approach has emboldened rioters. The chief minister also accused Banerjee of labeling rioters as “peace ambassadors,” which he believes exacerbates the situation. Using a vivid idiom, Adityanath emphasized that those who only understand the language of force will not listen to words alone. He condemned the government for granting rioters impunity under the guise of secularism and called for decisive action to quell such chaos.
