New Delhi:
With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 just around the corner, the Indian cricket team is facing a significant concern: the dwindling form of their star batsman, Rohit Sharma. The 37-year-old, known for his explosive batting, has been struggling to find his rhythm across all formats, raising eyebrows and sparking debates among fans and critics alike.
Rohit Sharma’s recent performance has been under intense scrutiny, particularly after he managed only two runs in the first ODI against England in Nagpur. This lackluster display is part of a larger trend; he has scored a mere 166 runs in his last 16 innings, a statistic that has led to him dropping himself from India’s playing XI for the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia last month.
Rohit Sharma’s form has been a topic of discussion for some time now. His inability to score runs has not only affected his personal performance but also raised questions about his place in the team. Former teammate Ravichandran Ashwin, who has been through similar phases in his career, sympathizes with Rohit’s plight but emphasizes that the only way to silence critics is through performance.
“From Rohit’s point of view, it’s obviously frustrating. He wants to concentrate on the series, drawing confidence from his past successes in One-Day tournaments,” Ashwin stated on his YouTube channel. However, Ashwin also acknowledged the relentless nature of criticism, saying, “It’s a catch-22 situation. You can’t stop these questions. When will they stop? When he performs.”
As India gears up for the Champions Trophy, the pressure on Rohit Sharma to regain his form is mounting. Ashwin, who understands the challenges Rohit is facing, is praying for him to score a century in the ongoing series against England. Such a performance would not only boost Rohit’s confidence but also quell the growing concerns about his form.
In the meantime, India has taken a positive start in the three-match ODI series against England, winning the first match by four wickets. Shubman Gill’s impressive 87 runs earned him the player-of-the-match award, but the focus remains on Rohit Sharma as the team looks to build momentum ahead of the Champions Trophy.
The second ODI, scheduled to take place in Cuttack on Sunday, will be another crucial test for Rohit Sharma. With less than two weeks before the Champions Trophy, every match counts, and Rohit’s performance will be under the microscope.
