VERNA: A 23-year-old woman lost her life and another sustained injuries after a speeding SUV rammed into two pedestrians near Verna on Saturday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Anisha Satish Borkar, a resident of Quepem. She succumbed to her injuries shortly after the accident.
The injured pedestrian, Akshata Naik, hailing from Karwar, was rushed to the hospital for treatment and is currently recovering.
Preliminary reports suggest that the SUV was driven by a student who was allegedly on his way to college for examinations when the incident occurred.
The vehicle reportedly lost control before ploughing into the pedestrians.
The driver is currently in custody at Verna Police Station, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Police are verifying whether the driver was speeding or if any negligence was involved.
Locals have expressed shock over the accident and called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations in the area, especially during peak hours.
