New Delhi: Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, in his first public statement since leaving office in July, congratulated Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan on his election as India’s 15th Vice President.
Radhakrishnan, the NDA’s candidate, won the Vice Presidential polls on Tuesday with 452 votes, defeating Opposition nominee Justice B Sudershan Reddy, who secured 300 votes.
In a letter to Radhakrishnan, Dhankhar wrote, “Your elevation to this august office reflects the trust and confidence of the representatives of our nation.” He added that with Radhakrishnan’s extensive experience in public life, the office of the Vice President would “certainly attain greater veneration and glory.”
Dhankhar had resigned from the Vice President’s post in July during the Monsoon session of Parliament, citing health reasons, prompting the fresh election.
