PANAJI: A delegation of the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress on Tuesday met the Director General of Police (DGP), Goa, to raise serious concerns over the growing drug menace in the state, particularly in the hinterland areas.
The delegation was led by Archit Naik, President of the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress, and included Swapnil Patil, IYC Goa In-charge, Janardhan Bhandari, former General Secretary of the GPCC, Pralay Bhagat, District Youth Congress President, Vaishnav Pednekar, Youth Congress Vice President, and Navdeep.
During the meeting, the delegation submitted a memorandum highlighting the alarming proliferation of drugs across Goa and urged the police to initiate strict and time-bound action against those involved in drug trafficking and peddling. They called for the enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs, citing the devastating impact of substance abuse on the youth.
The memorandum also pointed out a rise in incidents of drug abuse on educational campuses and demanded that the police take serious note of the issue and initiate firm measures to curb the menace.
The Goa Pradesh Youth Congress further demanded a thorough probe into the BITS Pilani death case, stressing that justice must be delivered and the truth brought to light. The delegation emphasized that all investigations should be carried out independently and without pressure from the government or external influences to ensure public confidence in the police.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Archit Naik reiterated the commitment of the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress to continue raising its voice until accountability is fixed and Goa is made drug-free.
