CORTALIM: Concerned over the surge in crime in the Cortalim constituency, the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC) submitted a memorandum to the Police Inspector of Verna Police Station highlighting the need for immediate action to curb criminal activities.
GPYC Working President Mahesh Nadar, along with other office bearers, met the police officials and stressed the urgency of addressing rising incidents of violent crimes, including murders and assaults.
“We met the Police Inspector of Verna and expressed our concern over the increasing crime rate. The recent attack on two individuals, Anil Muthamajhi and Jhusaya Mandal, in which the former succumbed to his injuries, has instilled fear among the people. In the past, even a panch member was attacked by miscreants. Such incidents are on the rise and must be stopped immediately,” said Nadar.
The memorandum submitted by the Congress members called for enhanced patrolling, stricter surveillance, and immediate intervention to prevent further criminal activities.
“As responsible citizens, we are compelled to bring this issue to the attention of law enforcement authorities. The alarming rise in crimes and murders in Cortalim needs urgent action. There is a dire need for effective patrolling in the jurisdiction to identify and monitor suspicious persons and their activities,” Nadar added.
Emphasizing the need for community involvement in crime prevention, he stated: “The recent surge in violent crimes, including murders, robberies, and assaults, has created a sense of fear and insecurity among residents. A proactive and community-centric approach is essential to tackle this menace. We are willing to assist the police in any way possible to ensure a safer environment for our people.”
He further informed that the Police Inspector of Verna has assured full support and promised increased patrolling in sensitive areas to curb criminal activities.
Cortalim Congress Block President Peter D’Souza also spoke on the occasion, echoing similar concerns and urging authorities to take swift and decisive action.
The Congress representatives reiterated their commitment to working alongside law enforcement agencies to ensure peace and security in Cortalim.
