PONDA: A 19-year-old from Querim in Ponda ended his life on Wednesday night after reportedly incurring heavy losses in online gambling.
Police said the deceased, identified as Rohit Gaude, was found hanging at his residence. The matter came to light after 108 ambulance staff alerted the Mardol Police.
Initial inquiries with the family revealed that Gaude had been addicted to online gaming and gambling, and had borrowed money from relatives and friends to fund his addiction. Mounting financial losses are believed to have caused severe distress, ultimately leading to the tragic incident.
Police conducted an Unnatural Death (UD) scene investigation and inquest. The body was sent for post-mortem, where the cause of death was certified as “asphyxia due to hanging” by the Police Surgeon.
The body was later handed over to the family for last rites. PSI Vibhinav Shirodkar of Mardol Police is conducting further investigations.
