MAPUSA: Mapusa Police arrested a 23-year-old man and seized 3.1 kg of ganja worth around ₹3 lakh during a narcotics raid conducted in the early hours of Tuesday at the New KTC bus stand parking lot.
Police said the accused, identified as Mala Ram Bais, son of Sahab Lal Bais, a native of Rajdaha, Sakariya, Chitrangi, Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh and currently residing at Arpora, Bardez, was caught red-handed while in possession of the contraband.
Acting on prior information, a team led by PSI Pandhari Arun Chopdekar attached to Mapusa Police Station carried out the raid between 12.30 am and 3.30 am on August 19. The narcotic substance was seized under a panchanama, along with other articles.
Police registered an offence under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act, 1985 and arrested the accused at 6 am the same day.
