CALANGUTE: Calangute Police arrested a 27-year-old man in the early hours of Friday for possessing a substantial quantity of ganja.
According to police, the accused, Amrit Nath, son of Fatik Nath, resident of Sonitpur district, Assam, was intercepted near Dongarpur junction, Porbowado, Calangute, during patrolling between 12:15 am and 2:10 am.
A search of his bag revealed 566.5 grams of greenish leafy substance with flowering and fruiting tops suspected to be ganja, valued at around ₹56,000. The contraband was seized under a search and seizure panchanama, with all Supreme Court guidelines being followed, police said.
The case was registered on the complaint of PSI Rajaram V. Bagkar of Calangute Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
