PERNEM: A 28-year-old man from Parcem was arrested for possession of suspected narcotic substances near the Garbage Treatment Plant at Tuem.
The accused, identified as Shivanand Gawade, was caught red-handed by a Pernem Police team while carrying 732 grams of a greenish dried leafy substance with flowering tops, seeds, and stalks—suspected to be a narcotic drug—concealed in the dickey of his scooter.
Police have valued the seized substance at approximately ₹70,000. The scooter used for transporting the suspected drug has also been impounded.
Gawade has been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is being led by Pernem PSI Prathmesh Parsekar.
