MAPUSA; The Mapusa Police arrested a 22-year-old man for possession of a high-value quantity of hydroponic weed, following a late-night raid near the New KTC Bus Stand.
The accused, Leonardo Deva, son of Joseph Deva and a resident of Arradi, Guirim, Bardez, Goa, was caught red-handed in possession of 180 grams of suspected hydroponic weed, a potent variant of cannabis.
The seized contraband is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 18 lakh in the illegal market.
According to the police, the operation was carried out on the night of May 4, between *9:45 pm and 11:30 pm, based on prior intelligence.
PSI Ajay Dhuri of Mapusa Police Station led the team that apprehended Deva during the raid. In addition to the narcotic substance, Rs 200 in cash was also recovered from the accused.
The seized items were documented under a panchanama, and Deva was formally arrested in the early hours of May 5.
A case has been registered under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Further investigation is underway, led by investigating Officer PSI Mangesh Palni of Mapusa Police Station.
