BICHOLIM:In a late-night anti-narcotics operation, Bicholim Police arrested a 26-year-old man for illegal possession of suspected Ganja near the railway tracks in Shirgao, Bicholim.
The accused, Prajal Shambu Gaaonkar, a resident of Manaswada, Shirgao, was apprehended in the early hours of July 16, 2025, following a raid conducted by PSI Amarnath Anant Palni and his team based on reliable intelligence inputs.
According to the police, the raid began at 10:55 PM on July 15 and continued until 1:10 AM on July 16. During the operation, Gaaonkar was allegedly found in illegal possession of 208 grams of a green leafy substance suspected to be ganja, valued at approximately ₹20,800.
Police also seized a Yamaha Aerox scooter (GA-04-R-9755) from the scene, both items having been secured under a formal panchanama.
Gaaonkar was formally arrested at 3:26 AM and has been remanded to police custody. Further investigation is being led by PSI Rashmir Parab Matondkar of Bicholim Police Station.
Police sources have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illegal drug activities in the region and have urged the public to come forward with any information that can assist in curbing narcotics-related offenses.
