Curtorim: Youth of Pidadigal FC stormed into the quarterfinals of the 2nd Caniza Peixeto Memorial 9-a-side Football Tournament with a commanding 4-0 win over Corjem Youth Club in a rain-affected clash held at the St. Alex Church Ground, Curtorim. The tournament is being organized by Black Arrow Boys Agxem Sports Club.
Despite difficult playing conditions due to continuous rainfall, both teams showed spirit and determination. However, it was Youth of Pidadigal who controlled proceedings, converting their chances clinically across both halves.
The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute when Aliston Fernandes capitalized on a defensive lapse to slot home the opening goal. Just five minutes later, Velroy Pais doubled the advantage, giving Pidadigal a comfortable 2-0 cushion going into halftime.
The second half saw Pidadigal continue their dominance. Aliston Fernandes returned to the scoresheet in the 35th minute, completing his brace and stretching the lead to 3-0. Corjem tried to bounce back, with Fr. Milagres, Gilbert, and Aden combining well in attack, but they were repeatedly denied by Pidadigal’s solid defense and slippery conditions.
The final blow came in the 44th minute when Velrino Fernandes netted the fourth goal, sealing an emphatic win for Youth of Pidadigal FC.
Aliston Fernandes, with two goals and an overall influential performance, was named the ‘Man of the Match’. He received the award from Joel Paes, a member of Agxem Sports Club.
Youth of Pidadigal now move into the last eight and will look to carry forward their strong form in the upcoming knockout stages.
