Margao: Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a retaining wall at Taichguno, Paroda, and launched the desilting of a nallah aimed at addressing recurring flooding in the area.
Former sarpanch Inas Tereza, panch members Paulina Fernandes, Joaquim Dias and Shailesh Jotkar, Cuncolim Congress Block president Asisz Noronha, Savio Gomes and others were present on the occasion.
Alemao recalled that he had visited the flood-affected areas of Paroda during the last monsoon season and assured residents that steps would be taken to resolve the issue. “Accordingly, work on these projects has now been initiated,” he said.
“These two projects will help in draining excess water from flood-prone areas and will also benefit farmers in the vicinity,” Alemao stated, adding that such initiatives play a crucial role in reducing flooding.
He acknowledged the difficulties faced by residents of Paroda and commuters during the monsoon. “People here suffer a lot due to flooding. To tackle this problem, we have held meetings with officials and are confident of resolving the issue,” he said.
Alemao further said that all developmental works proposed in the area would be discussed with local residents before being implemented. “In my tenure, wherever developmental works have been undertaken, we have taken people into confidence before starting the projects. This helps in timely completion of the work,” he added.
