ZUARI: A 25-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a self-accident on the Zuari flyover on Sunday evening after his motorcycle skidded while negotiating a sharp turn.
The deceased has been identified as Sarvesh Borkar, son of Pradeep Borkar, aged 25 years, a resident of House No. 1085, Guddemol, Sarvordem, Curchorem. He was brought dead to the casualty ward of Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.
According to Verna police, at around 19:20 hrs, a wireless message was received from Casualty Police Bambolim stating that an unknown person had been brought dead to the GMC casualty from Zuari bridge in an accident case. Acting on the information, PSI Carey Fernandes visited GMC Bambolim and verified the details.
During the inquiry, it was revealed that the deceased was riding a motorcycle bearing registration number GA-05-K-6336 and was proceeding towards Panaji on the Zuari flyover. After crossing the Toyota showroom, while negotiating a sharp turn, the rider reportedly lost control of the motorcycle.
Police said the rider fell on the road and skidded for about 10 to 15 metres, while the motorcycle slid for nearly 40 to 50 metres on the road surface. The impact resulted in severe injuries, including amputation of both legs. The rider succumbed to his injuries before reaching GMC.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the motorcycle was being ridden at an excessive speed, leading to the loss of control. No other vehicle was involved in the accident.
Verna police has registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Carey Fernandes under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
