New Delhi: The Railway Protection Force apprehended 14 Bangladeshi nationals at Jalpaiguri Road railway station during a routine inspection of the Northeast Express train. Officials confirmed that the group included four women and four minors.
According to authorities, the individuals were detained after security personnel received specific inputs and carried out checks on passengers travelling on the train bound for Delhi. During the verification process, officials found that the group was carrying Aadhaar cards that appeared to be suspicious.
Biplab Dutta, an inspector with the Railway Protection Force, said the individuals were identified during a detailed inspection. After checking their documents, officers suspected that the Aadhaar cards might be forged or obtained through illegal means, prompting further action.
Authorities detained the group consisting of five men, five women and four children. During the search, officials also recovered Malaysian currency from their possession. Preliminary questioning revealed that the individuals are residents of Bangladesh and claimed they were travelling to Kashmir in search of work.
A detailed investigation has been launched to verify the authenticity of the documents and determine how the Aadhaar cards were obtained. Officials are also examining possible links to networks involved in illegal immigration or document forgery.
In a separate development earlier this month, the Delhi Police conducted a special drive against illegal immigration and detained 10 Bangladeshi nationals in the Outer District of the national capital. The individuals were allegedly attempting to use fake medical visa arrangements.
Following their detention, deportation proceedings were initiated by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office. Authorities said verification drives are continuing to identify foreign nationals staying in India without valid documents as part of a broader crackdown on illegal immigration.
