New Delhi: Amid rising tensions across West Asia, the Embassy of Iran in India has issued a message reassuring Indian nationals about their safety in the region. In a statement posted on social media, the embassy said that Indian citizens have no reason to worry and assured them that they remain safe despite the escalating situation.
The assurance comes as tensions continue to intensify in the region, with Iran asserting firm control over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is one of the world’s most important maritime routes for global oil transportation.
According to statements from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the strait remains under the country’s full and decisive control. Iranian authorities have also rejected recent proposals by Donald Trump regarding the reopening of the crucial shipping corridor.
In a significant development, the Iranian Parliament has approved a new management framework for the Strait of Hormuz. The plan introduces a toll system for ships passing through the waterway and outlines regulations related to maritime safety, environmental protection and financial arrangements for transit.
Reports from Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting indicate that the proposed system will require vessels to pay tolls based on Iran’s national currency. The framework also includes measures to strengthen maritime security and establish clear operational guidelines for ships navigating the strategic passage.
The plan also proposes restrictions on certain vessels. Ships from the United States and Israel would be barred from using the route, while countries that have imposed unilateral sanctions on Iran may also face limitations under the new policy.
In addition, the proposal emphasises Iran’s sovereign authority over the strait and suggests coordination with Oman to develop a legal framework for managing and regulating maritime movement through the waterway.
These developments come as the conflict in West Asia involving Iran and a US Israel coalition enters its second month, highlighting the growing geopolitical significance of the Strait of Hormuz in global trade and energy supply.
