Panaji: Young swimmer Rachel D’Souza produced a standout performance at the State Sub Junior and Junior Aquatic Championship in Ponda, winning four gold medals and one silver to emerge as one of the top performers at the meet.
Rachel dominated the breaststroke events, claiming gold medals in the 50 metre, 100 metre and 200 metre Breaststroke races. She further added to her medal tally by helping her team secure the gold medal in the 4×100 metre Medley Relay.
She also earned a silver medal as part of the 4×100 metre Freestyle Relay team, taking her overall tally to five medals at the championship.
Training in Mapusa, Rachel has been developing her skills under the guidance of National Institute of Sports coach Jerry D’Mello. She also receives technical support and advanced coaching from Niroop Lakshayn of the Academy of Sports in Bengaluru.
Her consistent performances across multiple events underline her growing reputation as one of Goa’s promising young swimmers. The five medal haul reflects her dedication, disciplined training and the efforts of her coaching team.
Rachel’s impressive showing at the state championship is expected to provide a significant boost as she prepares for future competitions and looks to make a stronger impact at higher levels of the sport.
