PANAJI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa State President Valmiki Naik has called on the Congress party to adopt a stronger legal approach against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that political opposition should extend beyond one-day press conferences and focus on holding leaders accountable through the legal system.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Naik said the BJP can be effectively challenged only by ensuring that the law is allowed to take its course. He urged opposition parties to file formal police complaints and pursue court proceedings wherever necessary instead of limiting their response to public statements.
Referring to the recent controversy over BJP leader Narendra Sawaikar’s alleged “termites” remark, Naik said AAP Goa has already initiated legal action by filing a police complaint. He asserted that the party expects the police to act impartially and register an FIR in the matter.
AAP Goa President Valmiki Naik, along with Senior Vice President Sandesh Teleikar Dessai, has lodged a complaint with the police seeking registration of an FIR against Sawaikar over the alleged remark.
The party has given the police a three-day ultimatum to register the FIR, warning that it will move the court if no action is taken within the stipulated period.
Naik reiterated that safeguarding democratic values requires legal accountability and maintained that all political leaders should be held responsible for their public statements under the law.
